Have a knack for arranging flowers in unique, beautiful designs? Attend the Advanced Floral Arrangements class tonight, Monday, July 29 at 6:30 p.m. In this class, participants will step away from the traditional grid often used to guide floral arrangements and, instead, create them using a “freehand” style. Those in attendance will take home their own designed and handcrafted arrangements made during the class’s duration. The class will take place at Brooklyn Brainery Prospect Heights, located at 190 Underhill Avenue. The cost for the class is $80 and will approximately end at 8:30 p.m.

NYS Office of Parks Recreation and Historic Preservation and Neighbors Allied for Good Growth (NAG) have teamed together and are pleased to announce a series of family-fun films this summer season. Tonight’s featured family film is Disney-Pixar’s “UP.” Free and open to the public, the movie will begin at 6 p.m., and the night’s festivities will end approximately at 10 p.m. This free movie will be shown at East River State Park, located at Kent Avenue and North 7th Street.

Do you like to drink and also learn new things? Well then you are in for a treat when the Masters of Social Gastronomy discuss the history and science behind cocktails. This unique lesson will be held tonight at the Brooklyn Kitchen, 100 Frost Street. There will be a $5 admission entry fee that includes two drink tickets. It will begin at 6:30 p.m. and end at approximately at 8 p.m.

Are you more of an artsy type of person, trying to find outlets to express yourself to others? A BioArt class will be offered tonight at 7 p.m. to those who would like to make a piece of artwork, whether it be a sculpture or painting out of organisms.  The class costs $74 for members and $84 for non-members. Have your superhero fantasies become a reality when you can learn how to write comics and graphic novels in an exclusive opportunity! This course looks at the forces that operate across the broad strokes of your story: structure, plotting, subplots, pacing, and characterization. This Comic Book Writing Class begins tonight and will take place over the course of six days, from 7 to 10 p.m. each night (July 31, August 5, August 7, August 12, and August 14). It will be held at 3rd Ward, located at 195 Morgan Street. The class is priced at $319 for members and $399 for non-members. Reading materials will be provided in class. The Language of Comics or prior consent of instructor is required as a prerequisite to this class; it is strongly recommended as a precursor to Writing Scripts for Comics, but not required. Fashionistas unite! A four-week fashion design class entitled “Intro To Handbag Making” is being offered to the public, which begins tonight at 7 p.m. Learn the basic techniques needed to create three different styles of handbags. By the end of this intensive four-week course, each student will have completed a market bag, tote and clutch. Skills to be covered include working with patterns, selecting materials, sewing, creating pockets and various finishing techniques. Students will also become familiar with terminology, tools and machinery commonly used in the creation of handbags. Students will be responsible for supplying their own fabric for the outside of the bags, as well as the lining. Please bring to the first class several yards of the fabric of your choice, thread and 4 yards iron-on fusible interfacing. All other supplies will be furnished by 3rd Ward. Classes take place tonight, August 5, August 12, and August 19 from 7  p.m. until 10 p.m.  It will be held at 3rd Ward, located at 195 Morgan Street. Got the Monday blues? “Men In Black III” will be shown for free tonight, with pre-show entertainment beginning at 7:30 p.m. The movie screening is part of the “Flicks on the Beach” series, hosted by the Alliance for Coney Island and NYC & Co. The series aims to promote a #ConeyComeback after the devastating effects of Superstorm Sandy, and to foster community arts and entertainment in the iconic Brooklyn neighborhood. You are even encouraged to dress up as a special agent to get into the sci-fi spirit. All patrons who mention “Agent J” or “Agent K” will have special access to following deals and discounts at Boardwalk cafes and shops. It will be shown in Coney Island on the beach at 3059 West 12th Street.
