Jackie Robinson statue is clear of hateful graffiti

The Jackie Robinson and Pee Wee Reese statue outside of MCU Park that was vandalized with hateful graffiti yesterday has been cleaned.

The Parks Department’s Monuments and Conservation Crew power-washed and sand-blasted the base of the statue in order to remove the vile graffiti.

The re-stenciling of the inscription on the base will be continued tomorrow, weather permitting. In addition, barricades surrounding the statue are down

The incident is being labeled a bias crime and is currently being handled by the New York City Police Department’s Hate Crime Unit.

Councilmember David Greenfield, State Senator Eric Adams and community activist and City Council candidate Mark Treyger are offering a $1,500 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the individual responsible for the crime.
