Muffin’s Pet Connection: Margey needs a home

BY JUDE LASSOW

MEEEEOW…"Puurrrs!  I am Margey, a brave, two-year-old kitty looking for a human I can trust and give my heart to. I was tossed out on the street at a young age, but still managed to feed and protect my four kittens under a stairwell during Hurricane Sandy. They are all in loving homes.

“I hope some special person who understands sensitive, shy cats will love me, too, and give me time to trust again. I love tummy and head rubs, am quiet and gentle, and can play well on my own or with other cats. I have been spayed, have my shots and am negative for FIV/FeLV. Please come and meet me; you will lose your heart to me. -- Love, Margey."  Please call Sheila 646-657-3224.

ADOPTION UPDATE:  OLIVER, an 18-month-old purebred English Bulldog, spotlighted in the August 23 column, was adopted into a loving home…Ziggy, a seven-year-old brown tabby cat, mentioned in the September 5 column, has a wonderful, loving home with Nick.

PET FOOD ALERTS: On August 14, there was a voluntary recall of more than 120 lots of dry Iams and Eukanuba dog and cat food by Cincinnati-based Procter & Gamble for potential salmonella contamination, caused by equipment failure that led to incomplete cooking.

The food poses a potential health risk to both pets and people who come into contact with it; there have not yet been any reported illnesses. If you purchased a listed product, throw it away.

HEY JUDE:  During the summer, I see more frightened, hungry cats and dogs roaming the streets. Can you please explain this phenomenon to me?

Memorial Day weekend begins the exodus of many house pets. I have been adopted by three older cats, wearing collars, with no tags. Two great Pits followed me home and lay down next to the cats. The Pits clean the cats, the cats clean the Pits. I wonder if they were house mates.

My new pet family is already fixed; the dogs have their rabies tags. But they are useless when trying to locate the original owner.

What am I supposed to do?  I contacted the ACC, the kill shelter. PITS get destroyed. I cannot live with that! They are fine together and seem to really like me.  — Gained a pet family, William in Canarsie.
