Prospect Park Parade Ground welcomes a new comfort station

Visitors to Prospect Park now have a new comfort station to rest in after a game of soccer or baseball.

The ribbon was cut on the new bathrooms, located centrally next to the concessions,  on Wednesday, September 25, at a ceremony attended by representatives of the Prospect Park Alliance and several local politicians, all of whom welcomed the new facilities as a necessary amenity to help support the $20 million in recent restorations and improvements.

“This project is just one of many the Prospect Park Alliance has undertaken in its 26 year history to restore the Park to its original glory,” said Emily Lloyd, park administrator and president of the Alliance. “Building a comfort station may not be the most glamorous project but it is a critical one. . . We are grateful for the strong support of our elected officials and the surrounding community.”

Funding for the renovations came from the City Council, Brooklyn Borough President
Marty Markowitz, and Assemblymembers Rhoda Jacobs, James Brennan, and Joan Millman.

The 40-acre Prospect Park Parade Ground features 11 athletic fields—including a baseball diamond with scoreboard, three additional baseball fields, two softball fields, one football field, one soccer field, three large multi-purpose fields, and basketball and volleyball courts—plus full-service concessions facilities and new picnic areas, seating and landscaping. The original fields were designed in the 1870s.
