The Eagles earned their spot in the big game with a convincing victory over the # 7 seed Giants. They followed that up with a hard fought 20-14 victory over the # 3 seed Steelers. The BengalsÂ’ appearance in the big game was totally unexpected. The Bengals beat the red hot # 4 seedColts 24-6 in their first game. They followed that up with the upset of the year, beating the undefeated #1 seed Cardinals 18-12.The Bengals finished off their Cinderella story season with a 13-0 victory over the Eagles. The Bengals were led by Angelo Fogliano. He had two touchdown passes and played great defense. The first of these touchdown passes was an 18-yarder to Matt Hanna with eight seconds left in the first half. Fogliano ran in the extra point. The second touchdown was a two-yard pass to Anthony Calabrese, one play after a 40-yard hook-up from Fogliano to Calabrese. Chris Nanas (two playoff touchdowns), Salvatore Lagana (one playoff touchdown), Giovanni Scalia and Joseph Fanelli all made big contributions on offense.Defensively, the Bengals were stellar once again. They knew that they had to contain Eagle quarterback Nicholas Cona to control the game. Cona and Gianna DiGregorio were the EaglesÂ’ main weapons.Led by Fogliano, Hanna and Calabrese, the defense had a fierce pass rush and made tackles all over the field.Gianfranco Iacobucci, who had a huge interception against the Cardinals, came up with a couple of big plays once again. Lagana also came up with some big plays on defense. However, the key to the defense was probably the tremendous improvement of Alex Baldwin and Luca Scalia. These two newcomers to the junior varsity had some growing pains during the year, but were outstanding throughout the playoffs.Congratulations to the 2013 Junior Varsity Division Champion Bengals.Leave a Reply
