Christmas at Borough Hall

Cold but festive, Brooklyn residents turned out en masse in Downtown Brooklyn on Tuesday evening, December 10 to see Borough President Marty Markowitz light the Christmas tree in Borough Hall Plaza.

The ceremony started at 5:30 p.m. and the actual tree lighting occurred 20 minutes later. The borough president and Brooklyn Parks Commissioner Kevin Jeffrey stood by as they watched a fellow Brooklynite flip the switch that brought life to the borough’s Christmas tree through its radiant holiday lights.

Holiday icons such as the Gingerbread Man, Snowman and Santa Claus made guest appearances at the event. The life-sized holiday figures brought smiles to the children’s faces as they posed for photos with them. The children in attendance also snagged gifts from under the Christmas tree within Borough Hall.
