Fontbonne girls swim team dominates

After finishing second in the Catholic high school championships last season, the Fontbonne Academy swim team has defended its title as Brooklyn-Staten Island champs.

The team remains undefeated. It started the season off racing at St. Francis College against St. Joseph Hill, defeating them with a final score of 89-80.

First place finishes included:200 freestyle, Sharon Marroney; 50 free, Meghan Maloney; 200 freestyle relay, Tara Muldoon, Rene Kabboz, Marroney and Victoria Marsillo; 100 Backstroke, Mary Jane Anderson and 100 Breaststroke, Kabboz.

The teamÂ’s next victory was against St. Joseph by the Sea. First place finishes were: 200 Medley Relay, Anderson, Kabboz, Maloney and Muldoon; 200IM, Maloney; 50 free, Muldoon; 100 Fly and 100 Breaststroke, Kabboz; 500 free, Maroney and100 Backstroke, Anderson.

On Saturday, November 9, the Bonnies beat St. John Villa at Fort Hamilton High School, their home pool.

Highlights of this meet included the following first place finishes: 200 Medley Relay, Anderson, Marroney, Marsillo and Deirdre Mooney; 50 Free, Muldoon;100 Free, Maloney; 200 free, Alyssa Owen; 100 Butterfly and 100 Backstroke, Anderson; 500 freestyle, Laura Keim; 200 Freestyle Relay, Owen, Marroney, Muldoon and Maloney; 400 Free Relay, Owen, Maloney, Muldoon and Anderson.

The team continued its winning streak on Sunday, November 17 against Bishop Kearney with a final score of 89-73. The team coaches are Kathi Kocur, Bill Shea, Joe Verponi, K.J. Hanley, Kaitlyn Kocur and Laura Shea-Delin.
