Songs of the season at St. Pat’s Christmas pageant

Saint Patrick’s Catholic Academy students celebrated the holiday season by performing in the annual Christmas pageant to a capacity crowd on Friday, Dec. 13. The show featured students from pre-K through eighth grade singing traditional Christmas songs, acting in a full-length play and telling the Biblical story of Jesus’ birth in a manger in Bethlehem.

The academy’s youngest students opened the show with an energetic performance of popular Christmas songs including “Let It Snow,” “Frosty” and “Sleigh Ride.” Then the first and second-graders sang favorites like “O Christmas Tree,” “Deck the Halls” and “Holly Jolly Christmas.”

The third act of the evening was a play titled “I Need a Little Christmas Vacation” that allowed students of all ages to show off their acting and singing skills as they portrayed a group of friends trapped in school during a snowstorm that threatens to strand them there through Christmas break.

Though the main characters all have an idea of what they would prefer to do during the holiday week, they grow to understand that Christmas is about more than just presents and vacations. Of course, some holiday magic – and a visit from Santa Claus – makes it possible for them to leave the school and return to their families just in time for Christmas.

The final act of the evening featured talented third-graders acting out the Christmas story of Jesus being born in the manger. Songs like “O Little Town of Bethlehem,” “Away in a Manger,” “Silent Night,” We Three Kings” and “Hark, the Herald Angels Sing” accompanied the narration of the Biblical scene unfolding on stage.

After the final curtain, Principal Andrea D’Emic thanked Musical Director Brian Worsdale and Coordinator Mrs. Lindroth for organizing such an engaging pageant and, naturally, wished everyone a very merry Christmas.
