CHILDREN’S ETIQUETTE Thank You NotesThe new year is well on its way and I think this is the perfect time to check how our young ambassadors-in-training are doing with their etiquette lessons. They probably received dozens of gifts from various relatives and friends over the holidays. If they have not yet sat down and penned a few words of thanks, it is not too late.Saying thank you on the telephone or by Skype is fine, but teach them to go a step further by telling them that you are teaching them how to write a surprise Thank You note. Tell them it will be their way of surprising grandma or any other gift-giver, who will not be expecting a written note at this time. That element of surprise will delight both the child and the recipient. Imagine grandma’s face when she reads: I am still having a lot of fun with the game you bought me for Christmas. Thank You.Many adults give gift cards. To let the giver know what was selected and how much it is being enjoyed will also be a warm touch during these cold months.Do not underestimate the impact of a pleasant surprise. As general manners decline, gift-giving has almost become an obligation instead of a thoughtful choice. There is something about writing a thank you note that slows the child’s brain down long enough to absorb the true meaning of receiving a gift and linking the enjoyment they receive with the giver. You can start a new January surprise tradition.Beauty Tips Anti Aging TipsThe lipstick shade you wear can age you. Avoid lipsticks that are in the brown shades or matte in texture, as they settle into the lip lines. Instead, select creamier lipsticks or apply a lip gloss over your favorite color. If you apply foundation to your neck as well as your face, be sure to remove the neck foundation before you go to bed. Neck neglect results in a dull appearance.Use a washcloth, apply moisturizer and exfoliate your neck as well as your face. Be gentle with the thin skin, but see it as an extension of your face and not apart from it.Phillipa Morrish is the president of Etiquette Training International.
