Brooklynites rang in 2014 with a bang at Grand Army Plaza’s annual fireworks show.
The pyrotechnics, which took flight from the Great Lawn, wowed a crowd of 12,000.
At midnight, Marty Markowitz –who was term-limited out of office after 12 years — handed over the position of Brooklyn borough president to Eric Adams, who was overwhelmingly elected to the post in November.
“Borough President Marty Markowitz was a fantastic supporter of Prospect Park and we wish him well in his next endeavor. We are looking forward to working with Eric Adams who has also been very supportive of the park,” said Eric Landau, vice president of government and external affairs of the Prospect Park Alliance, which sponsored the event.
The event also featured Brooklyn’s New Year’s Eve 5k run, the only nighttime race that occurs in the park.
