The NYC Audubon Winter EcoCruise returns with a new run of tours this Sunday, January 12 and continue every Sunday at noon through March 9, bringing curious New Yorkers and tourists alike on a two-hour seal-watching and skyline-enjoying adventure around New York Harbor.
“Most New Yorkers do not realize what unique opportunities are available to them in their own backyard during the wintertime,” said Brian McCabe, chief operating officer of New York Water Taxi and Circle Line Downtown. “In this event series, they will get to enjoy a beautiful day out on the water and see wildlife they have never seen before.”

Look for harbor seals on the rocky shores of Governors Island and the more remote Hoffman and Swinburne Islands. Learn about the surprisingly diverse winter birds of New York City, including ducks, geese, loons, and sandpipers – many of which migrate south from the Arctic Circle. Dress warmly and bring your binoculars because there will be plenty to see!Aside from seals and waterfowl, you’ll also see breathtaking Harbor sights such as:
- The Statue of Liberty
- The Ellis Island Immigration Museum
- The Brooklyn Bridge
- Governors Island
- Verrazano Bridge
Tours begin boarding at 11:50 every Sunday and depart at noon from South Street Seaport’s Pier 1.
