Beauty Talk: Winter skin care

We know beyond a doubt that winter is here and very dry skin is common. So, with that in mind, I wanted to remind you to take care of your skin during the harsh weather.

With the brutal cold, we all love taking long hot showers but it is not good for our skin. This is because hot water and steam open our pores and dehydrate us.

Try not to use bar soaps either as they tend to be very harsh and drying, removing every trace of our natural skin oils. It would be more beneficial to use mild temperature water and to choose a creamy, hydrating body wash instead.

Exfoliating can help improve dry skin as it removes dead cells that build up and prevent your moisturizer from penetrating. Use gentle pressure and exfoliate only once or twice a week. Over-exfoliating can cause excess dryness.

Plantogen’s Organic Raw Sugar Scrub with Manuka Oil® is an excellent scrub that’s gentle and moisturizingat the same time. The raw Australian sugar exfoliates, while Manuka Oil, which is known for its healing properties, cures most skin ailments and is very hydrating. You can escape to the spa and come in for a relaxing, therapeutic treatment or use the scrub in your own home.

Switch to a heavier moisturizer for your face and body during the cold months for maximum hydration. Try to spend a couple of extra minutes on yourself and do not skip applying moisturizer both in the morning and at night. Apply it right after your shower to seal in hydration and this will help keep your skin soft, smooth and supple.

At your next spa appointment, choose a hydrating facial and feel the difference. Try our Champagne Hydrating Facial, it is also an excellent antioxidant treatment!

Lastly, remember drinking lots of water also helps your skin to remain hydrated and plump — dry skin leads to wrinkles!

Until next time, look your best….feel your best….but most of all, love yourself.
