Unsung Bay Ridge: A consummate community volunteer

My unsung hero this week is a dear friend that I have worked with ever since I was a teenager and he, a young attorney. Gerard Rosenberg (known as Gerry to his friends), and his beautiful wife, Harrietth Precinct Youth Council, where their sons Mark and Arthur were Little League ballplayers.

Gerry managed their team, and long after they were grown, he continued, serving as director of the Farm League (ages 6-9). He was elected to the Supreme Court in 1984, and in spite of his demanding job, he continued as director for over 20 years, caring for and guiding our children.

Gerry retired from the Supreme Court seat in 2010, but continues to assist those in need of legal services free of charge. I feel that it is time to acknowledge the community service of this wonderful human being. Hats off to you, my friend.

A warm Bay Ridge welcome to Captain Ray Festinoth Precinct. We met him at this week’s community council meeting, and he impressed us with his warmth and dedication. He is looking forward to his new position in keeping us safe, and we are looking forward to working with him.

Please remember to come out for the Brooklyn Memorial Day Parade, on Monday, May 26, beginning at 1 p.m. at 87th Street and Third Avenue. The reviewing stand will be in John Paul Jones Park, 101st Street and Fourth Avenue. The grand marshals are the Gold Star Mothers. The deputies are the families of the Fort Hamilton Army community. Ray Aalbue is parade chairperson, and Pete De Angelis is president.
