Etiquette Boss: Shirt collar savvy

WARDROBE ETIQUETTE: Shirt Collars

June is a transition month for most teens. Some are preparing to go to college while others are leaving to enter the job market. Today’s column is dedicated to that young man who would like to look his best but does not realize the collar of the shirt he buys is as important as its color and texture.

It is the item of clothing closest to his face, and has a remarkable effect on his overall look. A man’s shirt collar should counter balance his most prominent features

If your son is thin and has a long neck, he should not purchase a shirt with a pointed collar, as it will help to elongate the appearance of his face. A spread collar that is slightly open and wider than his face will help to create balance.

Similarly, a young man with a slightly large head or round face should avoid spread collars, as a wide spread collar will make a round face appear larger. A teen with a short neck should look for shirts with narrow collars. A normal shirt collar will make his neck appear shorter. A shirt collar that is slightly narrower and lower will give him a “neck” and help to boost his confidence.

YOUR BEST APPEARANCE: Masks for youth and beauty

The winter has left us with dull, dry skin. Here is a mask that would help to restore the moisture and glow to your face.

Blend one half avocado with one half lemon juice. When the mixture is blended without lumps, add one egg and mix into a smooth consistency. Use a cosmetic brush to apply to your face as this mask can be messy and slippery by hand. Leave for 20 minutes, rinse with cool water and moisturize.

To moisturize aging skin, choose a base oil such as grapeseed or avocado oil. Mix with some drops of a nourishing oil such as rosehip seed oil or emu oil. Add a few drops of an essential oil such as lavender or peppermint.
