Generally Speaking: City moves to seize McKinley Public Library Building

Apparently unable to come to reasonable terms with the current property owner over the purchase of the building that houses the McKinley branch of the Brooklyn Public Library, the city and the BPLhave announced they propose to acquire the building via the state’s Eminent Domain Procedure Law.

A public hearing was held back in April, after which the BPL and the City have now determined to move forward with the acquisition to ensure the building at 6802 Fort Hamilton Parkway will continue to be used as a branch of the Brooklyn Public Library. The building, which was constructed back in 1959, is one of the busiest branches in the BPL system.
