P.S./I.S. 229 exhibition a ‘work of art’

Imagine a small room filled with larger than life artwork by students with larger than life minds. The auditorium of P.S./I.S. 229, 1400 Benson Avenue, gave a glimpse of what it would be like to step into a young child’s creative mind. From paintings to sculptures to replicas of objects that were five times their original size, students from kindergarten through grade eight showcased their artwork to friends and families during the school’s second annual art show this spring. Attendees at the art show were astonished as they walked by a number of artistic creations in the forms of masks, clay work, sculptures, and even portraits. What was even more impressive were the students themselves, who helped set the tone by serving their friends and families cheese and crackers and juice on platters while wearing white tops and black bottoms. “They showcased phenomenal work,” said Laurie Windsor, president of District 20’s Community Education Council. “[P.S./I.S. 229] has a very strong art department that allows the students to challenge their artistic skill.”
