Prior to the New York Penn League All Star Game, local celebrities, entertainers and civil servants came out to play a charity softball game hosted by MCU Board Chair Mark Brantley. This year’s sponsors of the game were Doug Wells, owner of Mercedes Benz of Brooklyn and WFAN radio host Craig Carten, founder of the Tic Toc Stop Foundation for Tourette’s syndrome research.
Dividing up between red and blue teams, blue captain Good Day New York host Rosanna Scotto good-naturedly taunted the red team captain, former New York Met John Franco, saying, “Get ready because you’re going down!”
Responding to the challenge, Franco’s team took an early lead until Scotto’s team rallied in the fourth inning for three runs on a Pete Kessler (NYPD) home run for the eventual 9-5 blue team win.
The charity game concluded with Brantley donating a check for $5,000 to the Tic Toc Stop Foundation along with a surprise donation of $2,000 by Elvis Duran of the Z100 Morning Zoo Show. The event finished with the Lou Gehrig ALS ice water bucket challenge taken by Craig Carten, John Franco, WFAN’s Boomer Esiason and St. John’s basketball coach Steve Lavin.
