Brooklyn contractor indicted for defrauding 70 workers

Anthony Miller, 51, has been indicted on charges of scheming to defraud, violating Worker’s Compensation Law and failing to pay employees for over $100,000 worth of work completed over roughly three months at the former St. Mary’s Hospital at 170 Buffalo Avenue in Crown Heights.

Kings County DA Ken Thompson described the charges as the “first action brought by our new Labor Frauds Unit” and said that Miller faces up to four years in prison if convicted.

The incidents allegedly took place between November, 2012 and February 1, 2014, during which time Thompson said Miller hired 70 workers, and promised them permanent jobs, health benefits and an ownership stake in the resulting new building.
