Maimonides honors hard-working volunteers

On a recent Wednesday morning, volunteers, administrators, parents and guests all gathered in the Schreiber Auditorium at Maimonides Hospital for the Summer Youth Program recognition ceremony.

The ceremony was held to honor the hard work that the record 327 young volunteers put in throughout their almost two month tenure with the hospital.  The volunteers ranged from high school to college students.

Teamwork was emphasized during the ceremony and was a cornerstone to the program which operates based on the belief, “together we aspire, together we achieve, together we’ll make it, if we do it as a team.”

One volunteer, a college student from Brooklyn named Christian Francis, believes he “learned about teamwork and how to collaborate with other people in other departments and fields.”

Christian wants to go into the field of IT and he worked with external affairs in his time with the program. “As someone who wants to be in IT, it was great to be around the field in the real world,” he noted. “I got a sense of what I would do in an IT job in this type of environment. It was a very valuable learning experience.”

New York 1 news reporter Ruschell Boone was the guest speaker for the event and left the students with a confident word of reassurance. “By looking at your smiles I can see you all want to accomplish something…never let anyone throw you off course from accomplishing it,” he told the group.
