68th Precinct
Between Monday, August 11 and Sunday, August 17, the 68th Precinct received reports of three burglaries and one robbery. The 68th Precinct serves Bay Ridge, Dyker Heights and Fort Hamilton.
STRING OF JEWELRY THEFTS
On Friday, August 15, sometime between 6 and 10 p.m. an unknown perp allegedly broke into a residence near 11th Avenue and 63rd Street by entering through the rear kitchen window. The unknown perp made off with approximately $2,600 worth of miscellaneous jewelry.
On Saturday, August 16, sometime between 1 and 7:15 p.m., an unknown perp allegedly broke into a residence near 75th Street and 13th Avenue by entering through the rear window. The unknown perp made off with approximately $800 worth of miscellaneous jewelry.
NOT SO FAST
On Monday, August 11 at approximately 3:20 p.m., a black man known to the department entered a jewelry store near 84th Street and Fifth Avenue and asked to look at items. According to cops, the perp then ran out of the store with diamond earrings valued at approximately $1,927.
An officer on duty observed the victim chasing the perp in the street and the victim shouted, “He just stole jewelry from me.” The perp then entered a double-parked car, driven by a black woman also known to the department. The team then intentionally rammed the police car with their vehicle, causing damage, and fled the scene. The defendants were stopped and placed under arrest by a member of the 68.
WAD OF CASH
On Sunday, August 17 around 2:40 p.m., a man was sitting in his vehicle, parked near 66th Street and Fort Hamilton Parkway when two unknown males allegedly approached the victim. According to cops, the first perp displayed a black handgun while the second displayed a knife.
The second perp then reached into the victim’s pocket, removing $3,100. Both then got onto a motorcycle and fled the scene.
62nd Precinct
Between Tuesday, August 12 and Monday, August 18, the 62nd Precinct received reports of three robberies, five burglaries, two felony assaults, 11 grand larcenies and two auto thefts. The 62nd Precinct serves Bensonhurst, Bath Beach and Gravesend.
MISSING CARS
A 2013 white Ford E350 disappeared from its parking spot outside a restaurant at 65th Street and West Fifth Street some time between Friday, August 15 and 6:30 p.m. on Sunday, August 17, said police.
A 1985 green Oldsmobile cutlass was stolen from its space on West Seventh Street near Kings Highway between Tuesday and Wednesday, August 12-13, police said.
EMPTY-HANDED
Police are searching for two Hispanic men in their late teens or early 20s for allegedly assaulting and attempting to rob a 26-year-old Hispanic man near 19th Avenue and 66th Street at around 10:20 p.m. on Saturday, August 16.
The first suspect, who reportedly kicked the victim in the body and face, is said to stand 5’6” tall and weigh around 140 pounds. He was wearing a white tank shirt and brown shorts. The second suspect is described as standing 5’5” tall, weighing 140 pounds, wearing camouflage shorts and a black hat.
CAFÉ CRASH
Two brazen burglars allegedly snuck into a café at 63rd Street and 18th Avenue at around 11:50 p.m. on Saturday, August 16 through a sliding glass wall that led to the outdoor seating area, said police. Two employees were cleaning in the kitchen when they walked into the dining area and saw a man in his mid-20s, of Middle Eastern descent, taking cash from the register. A second man of the same description was reportedly acting as lookout. The suspects fled westbound on 63rd Street.
NO CASH FOR THIS CAB
A 25-year-old Caucasian woman allegedly stiffed a 52-year-old Asian cabbie out of $47.33 and then stole his cell phone when he tried to call the cops on her at around 4 a.m. on Sunday, August 17, on 81st Street near Bay Parkway, said police. However, she left her own cell phone behind as she fled.
GYM GRABS
A 50-year-old Asian gym-goer had to cancel his credit cards after his wallet, which also had $200 in it, was stolen from inside his locked locker at a gym at 86th Street and Bay 22nd Street on Saturday, August 16, said police.
A 36-year-old man’s wrist pouch was pilfered from the railing of a treadmill at a gym on 86th Street near 20th Avenue at around 8:40 a.m. on Friday, August 15, police said. The pouch contained $30 in cash, a cell phone and credit/debit cards.
