A choking woman is alive today thanks to the quick actions of a pair of local cops.
On Friday, August 22, at approximately 6:40 p.m., two 62nd Precinct officers observed a 20-year-old female coughing and in apparent distress with a female companion slapping her on the back at the Santa Rosalia feast on 18th Avenue.
The officers immediately went over to her and realized she was choking as she dropped to her knees. P.O. Nogol requested an ambulance as P.O. Smith started to perform the Heimlich maneuver, causing an object to dislodge from the woman’s throat.
The woman was taken to Maimonides Hospital for observation, conscious and alert.
