State senator wants to make new school year a success for local students

The fun of summer is slowly coming to an end and the rush of preparing for school is just beginning.State Senator Marty Golden is attempting to lighten the burden of going back to school by organizing a school collection drive in cooperation with Catholic Charities of Brooklyn and Queens. The drive will benefit local students whose families face the financial challenge of preparing their children for the 2014-2015 school season.“We are being asked to help out and make a donation of some essential items,” said Golden. Brooklyn residents are encouraged to “come together to support [their] neighbors in need so their children can have the same opportunities this year in the classroom.”School supplies, such as notebooks, crayons, pencils, rulers, backpacks, highlighters and folders, are needed. These items are necessary so that young students can make the most out of their education and participate in an engaging new school year.Anyone who would like to “join in making a donation” should bring supplies to either of Golden’s district offices, 7408Fifth Avenue and 3604 Quentin Road. Contact Golden’s office at 718-238-6044 for more information.
