Police Beat: 62nd and 72nd Precinct blotters

62nd Precinct

Between Tuesday, September 2 and Monday, September 8, the 62nd Precinct received reports of four burglaries, nine grand larcenies, three robberies, two felony assaults and four auto thefts. The 62nd Precinct serves Bensonhurst, Bath Beach and Gravesend.

BAT ATTACK

Police are searching for three white men, one around 30 years old, who hit a 48-year-old black man on the head with a baseball bat as he walked down 86th Street near 24th Avenue at around 4:25 a.m. on Sunday, September 7. Once at the hospital, the victim also discovered that he had been stabbed in the shoulder.

GUNPOINT GROCERY GRAB

A black man in his late 30s or early 40s allegedly pointed a gun at a 16th Avenue grocery clerk’s chest and forced him to stuff $600 in cash plus cigarettes into a bag at around 8:10 p.m. on Saturday, September 6, said police. The 55-year-old victim was then pushed into the basement, according to cops, before the suspect fled on foot towards 80th Street and 16th Avenue.

DISAPPEARING ACTS

A 2007 black Mercedes Benz was stolen overnight between Friday and Saturday, September 5-6 from its parking spot at 18th Avenue and Shore Parkway, said police.

A 1999 green Honda Accord was taken from its spot at 19th Avenue and 79th Street some time between 3 p.m. on Wednesday, September 3 and the next morning, its owner told cops.

A 1996 green Dodge Caravan disappeared from its parking spot at 15th and Benson Avenues some time between August 31 and September 3, said police.

A 2009 Suzuki motorcycle was stolen from its spot on Bay 13th Street near Benson Avenue between 10 a.m. on September 2 and the next morning.

JEWELRY HEIST

Brazen burglars allegedly entered a second floor tax office via the roof and then broke through the floor/ceiling into a first floor jewelry store on 86th Street near Bay 28th Street around or after 7 p.m. on September 3, said police, who received a report of stolen jewelry.

72nd Precinct

Between Wednesday, September 3 and Sunday, September 7, the 72nd Precinct received reports of one robbery, two grand larcenies, four assaults and one auto theft. The 72nd Precinct serves Sunset Park, Greenwood Heights and South Park Slope.

PHONE SNATCHERS

A 15-year-old Asian teen was robbed of his cell phone while walking along Eighth Avenue near 55th Street at around 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, September 6, said police, who describe the suspect as a Hispanic male standing around 5’10” tall, weighing around 150 pounds and sporting close-cut brown hair. He was last seen wearing blue jeans and a red shirt.

A 33-year-old Asian woman was robbed of her iPhone while standing near the southwest corner of Sixth Avenue and 48th Street at around 10:20 p.m. on Thursday, September 4, police said. The suspect fled on west on 48th Street towards Fifth Avenue. He is described as a Hispanic male wearing a black shirt with crew-cut black hair, standing 5’5” tall.

AMBULANCE ATTACK

Police arrested a 28-year-old black woman after she allegedly punched the 26-year-old EMT who was taking her out of an ambulance at Lutheran Medical Center at around 4:40 a.m. on Saturday, September 6.

JACKED PARACHUTE

A 2008 Toyota RAV4 was stolen from a garage on Prospect Park West near 14th Street overnight between September 3 and 4, police were told by the owner, who said the car was filled with over $28,000 worth of gear for camping, climbing and parachuting.
