Stepping Stones students “go gold” for kids with cancer

With major landmarks like the Freedom Tower and Brooklyn’s own Coney Island Parachute Jump lighting gold this month in honor of Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, one Bay Ridge nursery school has joined in, piggybacking on Bay Ridge Cares’ grassroots campaign, Go Gold Bay Ridge.

“We here at Stepping Stones just feel that by going gold to call awareness to pediatric cancer, we are teaching our children to have compassion and want to help others in our community,” said the family at Stepping Stones: The Next Step, with  just over 20 children ages two to five enrolled in the program.

The Ridge Boulevard school went gold on Friday, September 12 as students – clad in bright yellow and gold attire – took to the front steps and side-yard of their building to tie gold ribbons around the fence. With a little help from their teachers, the students were all smiles as their gold ribbons sparkled in the sun and sent the message to kids with cancer that Bay Ridge has got their backs.
