Guest Op-Ed: Chamber on the Go hits the road

The Brooklyn Chamber is now making house calls – and business services in the borough will never be the same!

Chamber on the Go is an initiative created by Council Member Robert Cornegy, Jr. and the Brooklyn Chamber, and funded by Council Speaker Melissa Mark-Viverito and the entire Brooklyn delegation of the New York City Council. The idea was to create a truly unique resource that could serve small businesses in the city of New York.

So what does Chamber on the Go mean and what does it do? Chamber on the Go is a mobile business solution center through which the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce brings all its services to any neighborhood, wherever and whenever they can be used to assist businesses, with the goal of promoting a robust business environment throughout Brooklyn.

Chamber on the Go will allow businesses to have access, right at their doorstep, to a variety of services designed to help them flourish and grow. It will also provide on-demand assistance for businesses that are struggling or having issues with a government entity, among other problems.

The specific services that will be provided include pro-bono legal, financing, job recruitment and training, and Minority & Women Business Enterprise (MWBE) application assistance; help with affordable health care enrollment opportunities and options outside of the exchange; and publicity, marketing and promotional support.

Far too many businesses are struggling and in need of the outstanding services the Brooklyn Chamber offers, but owners have no time to get help. That issue ends now, with the launch of this revolutionary program.

Our goal is to make Brooklyn businesses as strong as they can be, and Chamber on the Go will be our newest tool in making this goal a reality. This is a groundbreaking initiative that we expect will set an example for Chambers of Commerce across the country and the world!

Chamber on the Go hit the road on September 18, and by the time you’re reading this, we will have already met with over 100 businesses on location. As part of a pilot program over the next several months, the van will be deployed to communities across the borough, guided by councilmembers from the Brooklyn delegation. After the pilot program, Chamber on the Go will be expanded to districts throughout the five boroughs. So get ready New York: Chamber on the Go is coming soon to a neighborhood near you!
