Letter to the Editor: Driven to Frustration

Allen Bortnick’s letter regarding New York City driving hit the nail on the head.

New York City has all the lame brain proposals for traffic calming. These proposals should be called “traffic congesting” because that is all they do, everywhere.

From bike lanes to Citibike programs, eliminating street parking, narrowing streets, sidewalk reconfigurations, pedestrian malls, etc., drivers are punished. Yet bicyclists flagrantly break every law, as do many pedestrians, many times causing their own peril, but of course the driver is again blamed.

A new traffic commissioner may cure these issues, if he or she truly understands the balance between ALL modes of street travel, but under this administration, I honestly do not see this happening.
