Fire ravages three-story Coney Island building

A three-alarm fire tore through a commercial building near Coney Island’s Luna Park the evening of Thursday, December 18, ravaging at least two businesses, according to officials.

The Fire Department was called to 2900 Stillwell Avenue at 7:53 p.m.

The blaze destroyed a food mart, a Turkish restaurant and a vacant apartment inside the three-story building, located near Mermaid and Stillwell Avenues.

The fire started around 8 p.m., according to the FDNY, and took hours to control. The scene was cleared at 10:22 p.m. following the efforts of over 33 units and more than 140 firefighters.

One person was injured and removed to Lutheran Medical Center.
