62nd Precinct cops honored for arresting robbery suspects

A timely arrest in a gunpoint robbery earned 62nd Precinct Police Officer Thomas Citera Cop of the Month honors for February.

Citera placed the two suspects under arrest following their assault on a female victim, who was held at gunpoint by the suspects, who stole her cell phone and various items, according to Captain William Taylor, who spoke about the collar during the precinct’s monthly community council meeting on Tuesday, February 17.

“The description of two males came on the radio,” said Taylor. “The cops observed the two males in the general vicinity where crime was originally reported and they start to surveil.”

Citera was among the officers who saw two males fitting the description of the perps in the general vicinity of where the crime had occurred.

Shortly after, cops grabbed both suspects, who had split up. Citera was the arresting officer.

“The suspect identified the men as the ones who robbed her at gunpoint,” said Taylor. “Not too far away from the location, the gun was retrieved and turned out to be a BB gun.”

One of the perps was a juvenile and was brought back to his parents. The older suspect, who is considered to be the main culprit in the robbery, remains at Ryker’s Island on $10,000 bail.

“If you don’t catch these guys right away, they go in a bit of a rampage, that’s what happens,” said Taylor. “You can see a spike in robberies.”
