In an effort to entice tourists to visit Sunset park, NYC & Company enlisted former Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz — now the agency’s vice president of borough engagement — to act as maître d’ at its Neighborhood X Neighborhood event at the Pacificana restaurant on February 17.
Just two days before the kick-off of Lunar New Year celebrations – the reason for the focus on Sunset Park this month — Markowitz greeted and seated guests at the Pacificana while letting them know how tourism supports local businesses.
“I want residents to get excited about everything NYC & Company is doing to get tourists to explore their neighborhood,” he said.
NYC & Company is the city’s official marketing, tourism and partnership organization. Its Neighborhood X Neighborhood program introduces tourists to a new, less explored part of the city every month and encourages them to support local businesses when they visit.
“Our goal is for visitors to get excited about exploring all five of New York City’s boroughs and to include less traditional local destinations in their itinerary when they visit,” said Director of Communications and External Affairs Dena Libner.
“Residents already know why Sunset Park is great – that’s why they live there! – and we hope they’ll be excited that we’re encouraging visitors to get to know Sunset Park, too,” she said.
According to the organization, New York City tourism supports nearly 360,000 jobs and results in $3.7 billion in tax revenue per year.
