Fontbonne 44 Bishop Kearney 35
Two weeks ago, Fontbonne JV Coach Anthony Bartholomeo hit the nail on the head projecting a 9-3 record to conclude the regular season. But in order to make his prediction come true, his JV squad had to beat the always-tough rival Bishop Kearney Tigers for a second time this season.
Fontbonne started out with a 23-16 half time lead over Kearney until the Tigers surged ahead in the third quarter by the score of 28-27 on the scoring efforts (13 points) of Kristin O’Grady.
The Bonnies gradually moved past Kearney’s one-point lead as Emily Manti (nine points) hit six of eight consecutive foul shots along with Olivia Chell’s long three-point shot to lead a 17-7 fourth quarter run for the eventual 44-35 Fontbonne win.
Also contributing to this significant team win were key JV players Erin Kennedy (nine points), Danielle Willoughby (eight points) and Shannon Greene (seven points).
Along with first place 11-0 Monsignor McClancy, second place 9-3 Fontbonne has earned a bye as the top two seeds in the upcoming playoffs. In back of Fontbonne, 8-4 St. Edmund Prep finished in third place while 7-5 Bishop Kearney finished in fourth.
