Young girl shot in Dyker Heights apartment

A 14-year-old girl was shot while playing with a nine-year-old boy in Dyker Heights on Friday, March 20, according to cops.

Police responded to a 911 call from a second-floor apartment near 12th Avenue and 71st Street just past 6 p.m.

According to an e-mail sent out by the 68th Precinct, “somehow, the nine-year-old found and started playing with a 22. caliber rifle. The rifle went off and the female was shot in the shoulder.”

The victim, who the Office of the Deputy Commissioner, Public Information reports had been shot in the back, was transported to Lutheran Medical Center in stable condition.

“Luckily, it looks like she will recover,” wrote the 68th Precinct.

There have been no arrests and the investigation is ongoing.
