Bushwick man gets 25 to life for brutally stabbing girlfriend to death

A Bushwick man was sentenced this week to 25 years to life in prison for fatally stabbing his girlfriend three years ago, Brooklyn District Attorney Ken Thompson announced.

The defendant, Nathan Rosa, 43, of Flushing Avenue reportedly knifed his girlfriend—Angie Figueroa, 40—inside their Humboldt Street apartment during the early morning hours of April 30, 2011.

Law enforcement agents said Figueroa suffered two stab wounds to her neck; her jugular vein was lacerated. Additionally, she was found with injuries about her face and head indicative that she had been badly beaten, Thompson noted.

When the victim’s family tried to reach her, according to testimony, Figueroa failed to return their phone calls and text messages, alarming the family. When they questioned Rosa, who had the victim’s two Pomeranian dogs, about her whereabouts, the defendant responded that he did not know.

This reportedly alarmed the family further because Figueroa was rarely without her dogs, which led them to call the police.

The FDNY eventually broke down the door to the Bushwick apartment to find the victim’s body in bed covered by a comforter.

“This defendant not only repeatedly stabbed and brutally beat his girlfriend, but he also then left her in a locked apartment to die alone,” Thompson said. “We hope that his long prison sentence will provide some comfort to Ms. Figueroa’s heartbroken family.”

Rosa, who was convicted on March 23 of second-degree murder and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon, was sentenced on Wednesday, April 15, by Brooklyn Supreme Court Justice Ruth Shillingford.
