Unsung Bay Ridge: Being at home at Cathy’s

This week I have chosen to shine the spotlight on Cathy Homsi, the friendly owner and operator of Cathy’s Place, located at the corner of 96th Street and Fourth Avenue. Cathy runs a diner that is really a location where regulars meet and chat about everything from games to politics. Anyone can join in the friendly banter; and the place usually reminds me of the atmosphere in the old fashioned barber shop.

This week, Cathy’s Place celebrates fifteen years of great food in a warm family atmosphere. I am surprised that she finds the time to contribute to the community. She supports The William O’Connell school activities, donates to fund raisers at St. Patrick’s Church, and contributes food for military functions. Cathy also gives gift certificates to many worthy causes.

She has raised her son Dennis and daughters, Vanessa, Danielle and Lauren. I am glad to see that the old fashioned values of hard work and caring for people still works in our community. We are thankful to have Cathy and her family business in Bay Ridge.

COMMUNITY NEWS

We welcome the good news of another addition to the Howe family tree. Prominent Bay Ridge attorney, Bob Howe and his wife Diana, have welcomed a granddaughter, Monica, from their daughter Brianne and her husband, David. This is their third grandchild, and we wish them many more healthy and happy grands.

Tickets are still available for the annual Dinner of the Bay Ridge Community Council, being held on June 4, at Sirico’s Catering, 81st Street and 13th Avenue, from 7:00 p.m. to midnight. Tickets are $125 per person, and can be obtained by calling Maryann Walsh at 718-833-6624.

The 2015 Civic Award will be presented to honorees Arlene rutuelo and Zoe Koutsoupakis.

UNSUNG FOLK  REMEDIES: Shark Liver Oil

Swedish scientists have revealed that shark liver oil has helped asthma patients after taking 750 mg of the oil daily. In some cases they have reported cures after six months of taking a higher dose. People report improvement in cases of MS, diabetes, high blood pressure and arthritis.

Please consult your doctor if you have any health concerns, or on any medication.
