A small child was the victim when an out-of-control car jumped the curb on Seventh Avenue between 51st and 52nd Street in Sunset Park at on Monday, June 2 at approximately 2:20 p.m.
Surveillance videos show that the four-year-old boy was walking on the sidewalk near a deli, holding a stuffed animal, when the car suddenly mounted the sidewalk and hit a tree before hitting him.
The boy, along with the driver, was sent to Lutheran Medical Center. The child was treated for cuts and bruises, and has since been released from the hospital. The driver is also expected to recover fully.
The video also shows pedestrians running to the aid of the boy, trying to get him out from underneath the car. The FDNY quickly arrived at the scene and successfully removed him.
At the moment, it’s uncertain what caused the accident and, as of this writing, the driver has not been charged with a crime.
