Knights triumph in joust with Huskies

The Dyker Heights Athletic Association Knights 12-year-old travel baseball team went into the final weekend needing one win in their scheduled doubleheader against the Huskies to secure first place in their respective league (the Kiwanis League). The boys from Dyker swept the double header in convincing fashion with 10-1 and 14-6 victories.

In winning those two games, the boys finished off the Kiwanis regular season with 18 wins and four losses. By finishing in first place, they earned a bye in the first round of their leagues playoffs. They also earned a bid in the New York Baseball Federation Tournament.

Allan Burgos was the winning pitcher in game one of the double header. Burgos pitched five impressive innings. Jake Mangano came in to finish it off for the Knights.

Angelo Fogliano and K.J. Acevedo were the leading hitters for the Knights. Both players collected four hits and three RBIs on the day. Joe Baglivo and Edwin Martinez each collected three hits and two RBIs on the day.

Sean O Brien, Mike Durante and Chris Hutra chipped in with two hits each, along with a few walks. Noble Cardoze also contributed a hit on the day. Burgos also blasted a towering two-run home run as one of his two hits. Acevedo and Hutra did most of the pitching in the second game with Acevedo earning the victory.

Acevedo, Baglivo, Fogliano, O’Brien and Martinez made up the infield. Burgos, Cardoze, Hutra and Mangano made up the outfield .Durante did most of the catching. Acevedo, Baglivo, Burgos, Fogliano, Hutra and Mangano made up their pitching staff as all collected victories and pitched many innings on the year.
