The Hugh L. Carey Tunnel will be closed Sunday, September 27 from 7:45 a.m. until approximately 3 p.m. for the 14th annual Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Run, commemorating the FDNY firefighter’s run through the tunnel to the World Trade Center on 9/11.
Motorists are advised to use an alternate route.
One tube at the tunnel will be closed from 10 p.m. Saturday, September 26 through 3 p.m. on Sunday, September 27. There will be one lane open in each direction in the remaining tube until both tubes are closed at 7:45 a.m. on Sunday.
The charity run/walk begins on the streets in Red Hook, goes through the tunnel and ends across from the World Trade Center site. The Tunnel to Towers Run retraces Firefighter Stephen Siller’s footsteps and honors those who died on 9/11.
