Pets celebrated with blessing at New Utrecht Reformed Church

A special blessing for the community’s furry, four-legged friends went off without a woof at the New Utrecht Reformed Church on Saturday, September 19.

The chance for household pets of all kinds to receive the special blessing boasted a “delightful” turnout according to Reverend E.J. Emerson, the guest pastor.

“We were really delighted with the turnout,” she said. “We actually conducted three separate blessing services with individual blessings for each dog and cat because they just kept coming, which was wonderful.”

The two-year-old community event was free and featured a baked goods and jewelry sale—proceeds from which went to the restoration fund for the church sanctuary.

“I think it’s so important for us to truly treasure our domestic animals and to realize they really give us so much love and faithfulness,” added Emerson. “They always come back and are so loving, faithful and forgiving. This is our opportunity to thank God for the joy they give us.”
