FHCAC honors its greatest supporters

Local supporters of the military were feted recently at a cocktail reception hosted by the Fort Hamilton Citizens Action Committee (FHCAC).

The stars of the Thursday, October 1 event were FHCAC supporters, the Bay Ridge Lawyers Association, William Guarinello and Robert Sabbagh. The reception was held at the Bay Ridge Manor, 476 76th Street.

The FHCAC is known for supporting military service members and their families. It often bridges an alliance between the military and its local communities.
Ted General a member of the FHCAC, said the evening was “very festive, and had a very good turnout.”

The Bay Ridge Lawyers Association along with Bay Ridge Auto Group owner Sabbagh have always been “involved in helping the military base around Christmas and Thanksgiving time,” explained General, noting that Guarinello has lent his constant support from the very beginning.

Overall, the recent event was “the largest FHCAC fundraiser to date,” according to General, who said that the funds raised are directed at keeping the army base — which is the only active military installation in New York City — viable and operating,

At the event, Guarinello made a speech paying tribute to the late Howie Dunn, a Bay Ridge resident who was known for his decades of support for military veterans and active troops. General describes it as “one of the nicest, most important” occurrences of the evening. Dunn had been a member of the FHCAC from its inception and General said that Guarinello’s speech expressed gratitude for Dunn’s “patriotism and service to the committee.” A moment of silence in Dunn’s honor was also held.
