Local business owners are both treasured and honored for giving back to their community.
On Thursday October 29, the Dyker Heights Civic Association hosted its annual dinner commemorating its 87th year. Alongside marking a joyous anniversary, the night was made even more special with the celebration of honorees Nick Nikolopoulos and Ralph Succar. Both Nikolopoulos and Succar were selected by the civic association as honorees for their continuous support and service to the community.
Dyker Civic Fran Vella-Marrone told this paper that the event, “Was a great success; we had a very good crowd. Everyone had a great time.”
Nikolopoulos is a Dyker Heights resident, and owner and pastry chef at Bay Ridge Bakery. But, that’s just the beginning, as Nikolopoulos utilizes his time supporting many charitable groups. He has volunteered for BRAVO volunteer Ambulance for the past 26 years and serving as a past President. He is also a pilot with the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary Aviation Unit and a member of Community Board 10.
Succar, the night’s other honoree, owns a local construction company; Empire State Development LLC. The vice president of the Bay Ridge Community Council, Succar is past president of both the Verrazano Rotary Club and The Salaam Club NY. Both of these organizations raise thousands of dollars every year in support of different charities.
“Both of these men really give themselves for the betterment of the rest of us in the community,” stressed Vella-Marrone, noting that both Nikolopoulos and Succar are “two prime examples of what we should be doing to help our community.”
The dinner was held at Sirico’s, 80th Street and 13th Avenue.
