Salam Arabic Lutheran Church hosts dinner dance to honor and unify its community

Celebration can come in many forms.

When Salam Arabic Lutheran Church held its annual gala on Saturday, October 24, it celebrated the good of those in the community who continuously give and show their support.

The night was graced with the celebration of several distinguished honorees including Executive Director of the Lutheran Augustana Center Jeanne Lee who was named Woman of the Year, while Azzam Obeid was named Man of the Year. Marwan Atallah was presented with the Lifetime Achievement award, and Lenny Bartkus was honored as an Exemplary Disciple.
Pastor Khader El-Yateem noted that the honorees were “outstanding people, who have served the community for many years.”

The festivities, held at the Bay Ridge Manor, 476 76th Street, were also enhanced by the presence of entertainment from a live band accompanied by singer Eddie Osama.

“The atmosphere was fantastic,” said El-Yateem. “It was a wonderful event, and we had a good turnout.”

El-Yateem also remarked how the musical performances lent a certain special touch to the spirit of the night. “It was fascinating to see people getting up and dancing, eating and just sharing a good time together.”

He also added that “the purpose for the event was to bring people together and to bring unity.” The event was a success, said El-Yateem, noting that people of many faiths gathered together to join in the celebration.
