Woman dead after Bath Beach hit and run

A 66-year-old woman was fatally struck on Wednesday, November 18 by an unidentified car near Cropsey Avenue and Bay 35th Street, cops say.

While crossing Cropsey Avenue at around 7:16 p.m., the woman, Sofiya Ostrovskaya of Gravesend, was hit by a dark colored sedan traveling westbound at a high speed , according to cops.

When officers arrived at the scene, Ostrovskaya was on the ground with no vehicle in sight. The NYPD Collision Investigation Squad’s preliminary findings suggest that the car entered the intersection during a steady red light while Ostrovskaya was crossing . Due to the high speed at which the driver was traveling, cops determined that the woman might have been hit by the car’s bumper and forced into the air.

EMS responded to the incident and took the 66-year-old to Lutheran Medical Center where she was pronounced dead due to severe body trauma.

No arrests have been made and the investigation is ongoing.
