Cops to enforce new holiday pedestrian safety initiative

On Monday, December 14, the New York City Police Department announced a Holiday Pedestrian Safety Initiative, a new measure cops say will focus on areas surrounding senior center locations throughout the five boroughs.

The purpose of the enforcement – set to occur during times of the day or evening when there is the most amount of pedestrians in the area – is to prevent injuries and create a safe environment during the often-busy holiday season.

According to NYPD reps, officers will focus on the seven Vision Zero moving violations, with a special focus on the charge of failing to yield to a pedestrian.

“Pedestrians and drivers alike are reminded to exercise an abundance of caution on city streets during the holiday travel season, especially during inclement weather,” said reps.

The initiative will run through Sunday, December 20.
