Man jumps to death from Bay Ridge overpass

Cops say a man jumped to his death from a Bay Ridge overpass on Tuesday evening, May 10.

According to authorities, the man – whose name and age have still not been released – climbed onto the railing and over the fence of the 86th Street overpass near Fort Hamilton Parkway just before 9:30 p.m. and leapt onto the Gowanus Expressway. He landed in the way of an oncoming car – a late-model Honda CR-V, which was traveling westbound towards Staten Island.

The driver remained at the scene and the victim was rushed to NYU Lutheran Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

The expressway remained closed from 86th Street to 92nd Street for several hours as officers from the 68th Precinct and highway officers investigated.
