Coney Island Beach re-opened after shark sighting

Coney Island Beach has reopened after park officials closed the beach due to shark sightings on Tuesday, July 19.

Officials shut down the beach due to safety reasons after reports of Basking Sharks  swimming approximately 50 to 60 yards away from the shore. The beach re-opened at 10 a.m. today, following its daily schedule.

While the beach is now open to the public, park officials urge beach-goers always to follow lifeguard instructions.
