Reaching-Out Community Services (RCS) is at is again.
The New Utrecht Avenue food pantry and non-profit organization known borough-wide for its charitable efforts — will host its annual Operation Gobbler Giver event on Monday, November 21, for which the group is currently seeking donations from the community to help equip families in need with food this Thanksgiving season.
“We distribute turkeys and trimmings to clients and families that need it,” explained Reaching-Out Executive Director Thomas Neve, who looks forward to the event — which has been going strong for almost a decade — each year.
To bring the event to fruition, the organization is asking those who are able to help to provide a donation of at least $20 to help each family receive a full Thanksgiving meal. A $20 donation will sponsor an entire family, providing a full sized turkey and all the trimmings, just in time for Thanksgiving.
This year’s goal, Neve said, is to successfully support at least 500 families in need.
Those who are unable to attend the event — which will include a meet-and-greet with Tom the Turkey — but still want to donate are encouraged to do so online, or call the group’s donation line at 917-509-9055.
All contributions need to be received by Tuesday, November 22.
