Big love in Brooklyn this Valentine’s Day

Out with the stringy lights, in with the hearts.

Valentine’s Day is fast approaching and what better way to spend it than by taking a tour of Brooklyn’s Newtown Creek Wastewater Treatment Plant? Ok, so it’s not a romantic gondola ride in Venice, but, hey, there will be water.

If that doesn’t float your boat (no pun intended), Brooklyn has a slew of other V-Day activities up its sleeve for lovebirds and singles alike:

SWEET TOOTH SWEETHEARTS

There are tons of places in the borough to get your fix of some delectable sweets. In this V-Day roundup however, we’ve complied a few that stand out and have that ‘loving feeling’ attached to them. Sunset Park sweet spot Li-Lac Chocolates, 68 35th Street, is one of the city’s most renowned purveyors of the sensuous sweet. The almost too-beautiful-to-eat chocolates are all made on site and, before you choose between the expertly made truffles, caramels, chocolate-dipped strawberries and much more, you can watch the chocolatiers at work, creating the treats you and your honey will enjoy.

Celebrated chocolatier Jacques Torres, aka Mr. Chocolate, didn’t get the nickname by drooling on the job. In fact, if you want to visit the place “where it all started,” DUMBO is where you need to go. Torres’ first location, located at 66 Water Street, offers handmade chocolate treats, hot chocolate and some out-of-this-world ice cream sandwiches. From truffles to cookies to bonbons and more, the friendly staff at the DUMBO location will help you sample all sorts of delicious flavors to bring home and share with your sweetheart.

WINE AND DINE

Get the champagne flowing and that dessert that takes 15 minutes to make going – here are some delicious, special for Valentine’s Day, dinner spots in Brooklyn guaranteed to get you some (literal) brownie points. Carroll Gardens staple Buttermilk Channel, 524 Court Street, is offering a romantic prix fixe evening where they’ll be serving up a luxurious, three course menu for $90 per person.

Similarly, Cobble Hill’s La Vara, 268 Clinton Street, will be offering a four-course tasting menu for $65 and will be pouring up a flexible wine pairing to match for $35.

Meadowsweet, 149 Broadway, in Williamsburg is also not to be forgotten as Chef Polo Dobkin will be exclusively offering a romantic Valentine’s Day three-course prix-fixe menu for $65 per guest.

Nostrand Avenue hotspot Café Omar (1174 Nostrand Avenue) will be partying through the weekend in celebration of Valentine’s Day. On Saturday, February 11, BelleJuuTV will be there recording Coupé-Cloué live. Admission will be $25 in advance and $30 at the door.

MORE LOVE

As mentioned up top, a big attraction for Brooklyn lovers every year is the annual Valentine’s Day Tour of the Newtown Creek Wastewater Treatment Plant (329 Greenpoint Avenue). While 2017’s date has not yet been set, check back on NYC DEP’s website for more info; every year this tour manages to “sell out” of tickets. According to DEP, since 2012, hundreds of couples and others celebrating Valentine’s Day have “visited the plant to learn about New York City’s water supply and wastewater systems, while enjoying scenic views of the New York skyline from atop Newtown Creek’s iconic stainless steel digester eggs.”
