The Montauk Club, a private social club located at the corner of Eighth Avenue and Lincoln Place in Park Slope, is among the projects that will be recognized at the 2017 Lucy G. Moses Preservation Awards.
The awards — the New York Landmarks Conservancy’s highest honors for excellence in preservation — are named for Lucy G. Moses, a dedicated New Yorker whose generosity benefited the city for more than 50 years, according to the conservancy.
“The Lucy G. Moses Preservation Awards are a joyous celebration of the broad range of preservation projects in New York each year,” said Peg Breen, president of the New York Landmarks Conservancy. “They spotlight the city’s history and culture, as well as the economic vitality preservation provides.”
The Montauk Club was founded in 1889 by prominent Brooklyn residents, shortly after the construction of the Brooklyn Bridge, looking ahead towards the borough’s economic boom. It was designed by Francis Kimball in the Venetian Gothic style and built of brownstone and brick.
The awards ceremony will take place on Thursday, May 11 at the New York Public Library.
