Benefit at Salty Dog raises money for 150th Kings County Memorial Day Parade

A benefit was held on Sunday, April 30 to raise funds for the Kings County Memorial Day Parade.

This year, the parade will celebrate its 150th anniversary, and the 28th of which to take place in Bay Ridge.

For the past seven years, local resident and musician Frankie Marra has held a fundraiser at Salty Dog Bar and Restaurant, 7509 Third Avenue, with donations benefiting the parade. This year, the event featured performances by Marra himself as well as local groups Cherry Bomb NY, Rock Farm and more.

Ray Aalbue, the parade’s chairperson said, “It was a great event that helps support the most important parade in Brooklyn. The veterans appreciate what Frankie Marra and Salty Dog have done these past seven years to raise money for the parade.”

This year, the Kings County Memorial Day Parade kicks off on Monday, May 29 at 11 a.m. from 78th Street and Third Avenue, then marching along Third Avenue and turning up Marine Avenue. The parade finishes at John Paul Jones Park on 101st Street and Fourth Avenue, where a memorial service will take place.

“The parade gives us an opportunity to honor the men and women who gave their lives in selfless service to our country,” Aalbue said.
