PHOTOS: Bensonhurst Festival keeps Brooklynites cool

The 86th Street Bensonhurst street festival celebrated by thousands on Sunday, June 11 kept residents cool, mainly because they were under the tracks holding up the D train.

“It was so much cooler under the tracks, that nobody was complaining about the heat,” said organizer Chip Cafiero, who estimated that attendance reached around 15,000 over the course of the day.

The fair, which ran from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. from 19th Avenue to Bay Parkway, also featured tons of crafts and clothing as well as a variety of eats representing the neighborhood’s diversity. Proceeds from the festival are donated to the Southwest Brooklyn Parks Task Force, and to the 62nd Precinct Community Council in order to better the neighborhood.

“My favorite part was sampling all the food,” said Cafiero. “The fair was definitely a great success.”
