NYU Lutheran Medical Center is now New York University Langone Hospital—Brooklyn.
The hospital’s name change took place the same week as it announced a $25 million gift from the Bezos Family Foundation on Thursday, July 20. The foundation is headed by Mike and Jackie Bezos, the parents of Amazon founder Jeff Bezos.
The gift will benefit major initiatives for mothers, children and families in the Brooklyn community by providing long-term funds for new positions based on the science of early brain development to advance mother-baby care across the hospital. The gift will also promote an enduring partnership between the hospital’s departments of Population Health and Obstetrics and Gynecology, so that families in the Brooklyn community may benefit for years to come.
“When we first visited NYU Langone Hospital – Brooklyn, we realized why it has been a beacon for Sunset Park and the surrounding community for more than 100 years,” said Jackie Bezos. “This is a wonderful community and our hope is for them to experience care that is greater than they have ever had before.”
